The Crewdsons were weavers, Joseph Maude came from a family of coal fitters in Sunderland and his move to Kendal opened up trade between the north east and the north west. Both were Quakers. Christopher Wilson was mayor of Kendal. This bank amalgamated with Wakefield and Sons in 1840 to form the Kendal Bank.
