Barclays Bank UK was created, as part of the reorganisation of the Barclays Group in 1971-72, as a group subsidiary company in order to manage the UK banking business, with its own management board, in effect doing much of the management hitherto undertaken by the board of Barclays Bank Ltd; its role was 'reduced very considerably' at the group reorganisation effected on 1 January 1985 ('one bank,') becoming a monitoring and advisory body to the group board until its formal dissolution at the end of 1987.

Material available at Group Archives: board and committee minutes and papers; management files.
