Barclays inherited the Colonial Bank's business in the territory known as Gold Coast, which was established in 1917. In 1970 Barclays Bank of Ghana with 25 branches was incorporated locally as a wholly owned subsidiary of Barclays Bank (DCO). In 1976 the government of Ghana took a 40% interest in the bank, though this holding was bought back by Barclays in 2003.

Material available at Group Archives: pre-1970 material classed as Barclays International, where material relating to the Bank's operations post-1970 also available.
