In this late example of letter press damp copying, a country branch manager asks the assistant general manager at head office whether 'home safe' savings accounts can be provided for customers, a suggestion Barclays acted upon soon after. Branch managers' letters and diaries tell us a good deal about banking practice and the staff, and Group Archives has some good examples from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This letter book was started by Mr. Frank Gittins on his appointment at Stroud, and covers his entire time there between 1922 and 1947.
